Lindsey Gray Leads Tech Volleyball To 3-0 Win at N.C. State

RALEIGH, N.C. – Lindsey Gray had 16 kills to lead Georgia Tech (16-10, 8-8 ACC) to a 3-0 (30-23, 30-21, 30-27) victory at N.C. State (2-24, 0-17 ACC) Friday night at Reynolds Coliseum. With the victory, the Yellow Jackets extended their winning streak to five matches and have won eight of their last 10 since beginning conference play 0-6.

Gray hit .351 against the Wolfpack while Callie Miller added nine kills while hitting .312 for the Yellow Jackets. Overall, the Jackets hit .235 while N.C. State hit just .090.

The Yellow Jacket defense was led by senior libero Abby Showers, who had 12 digs, while Gray, Michelle Kandell and Ulrike Stegemann added nine apiece. Gray and rookie Erin Birmingham paced Tech’s net defense, with three blocks apiece.

Sophomore setter Allie Niekamp ran the Yellow Jacket offense with 38 assists while she also posted seven digs, five kills and two service aces in the match.

After falling behind 9-7 to begin the match, the Yellow Jackets used a 6-0 run to take a four-point lead in game one and then held on for the 30-23 win. Led by Ulrike Stegemann’s four kills on six attempts (.667), the Jackets hit .281, as compared to the Pack’s .111 in the game.

The Yellow Jackets took a 2-0 lead in the match by winning game two, 30-21. Tech used a 5-0 run to take a six-point lead at 11-5 and, after the Wolfpack closed the gap to four at 14-10, the Jackets extended the lead to eight with four-straight points. Stegemann and Lindsey Gray led the Yellow Jacket offense in game two, recording five and four kills respectively, while Tech as a team hit .353.

Trailing 7-4 in game three, the Jackets used a 5-0 run, which included three kills by Gray, to take a two-point lead at 9-7. N.C. State responded with four consecutive points to take the lead back at 11-9 before the Jackets stopped the run by winning six of the next seven points to take the lead for good, 15-12.

Aiwane Iboaya led the `Pack with 12 kills on the night.
