The Tech men saw six different swimmers score points in two events Friday night in Christiansburg, Va., highlighted by Lagerqvist and Chiu. With 183 points, the Yellow Jackets sit in seventh place with one day remaining, and are 7.5 points back of sixth-place Duke.

Lagerqvist was clocked at 54.78 in claiming a fifth-place finish in the 100 breast, followed by Ryan Salmon in 10th (55.51) and Max Randolph in 11th (55.53). The times for Lagerqvist and Salmon were NCAA “B” cuts.

Tech rebounded well Friday night after a balky start that saw the Yellow Jackets’ 400 free relay get disqualified for an early take off.

Junior diver Brandon Makinson’s 17 points from his second-place and school-record finish in the 1 meter diving (375.25) also factored in to Friday’s score.

Virginia leads with 406 points, ahead of North Carolina (394) and host Virginia Tech (387.5). Florida State (353), NC State (254.5), Duke (190.5), Georgia Tech (183). Clemson (181.5), Maryland (148), Boston College (64) and Miami (27) round out the field.
