ATLANTA–Georgia Tech freshman Steve Marcelle achieved personal bests in both the shot put and the discus to highlight day two of the Georgia Tech Track & Field Invitational Saturday at the Griffin Track.

On the women’s side, senior Ashlee Kidd won the 400 meters with a regional qualifying and season best time of 51.54.

Tech hurdlers Shantia Moss and Fatmatah Fofanah placed second and third, respectively in the 100-meter hurdles, both with regional qualifying marks. Moss ran 13.22, followed by Fofanah at 13.27.

Tech sophomore Jacqua Williams ran a regional qualifying and season best time of 23.57 in the 200 meters, finishing fourth.

Samantha Musil qualified for regionals and placed third in the women’s discus with a season best throw of 162-05, while Kimery Hern placed fifth in the same event at 156-05, also reaching the regional qualifying standard.

Marcelle, who had already qualified for NCAA Regionals in both events, threw the shot put 62 feet, 2.50 inches and then tossed the discus 179 feet, two inches (54.60m) to complete the rare double. He won the discus while finishing second overall but first among collegians in the shot put.

Juan Cave jumped 6-10.75 in the men’s high jump to qualify for NCAA regionals, while teammate Jerome Miller, who had already qualified, jumped 7-01.00.

Cristan Duvall ran a regional qualifying and season best time of 9:06.38 in the 3,000 steeplechase, in which he finished fourth.

Derek Hoye finished the men’s 800 meters with a personal-best and NCAA Regional qualifying time of 1:50.07, while E.C. Gibbs finished the event with a season-best time of 1:52.87.

On the women’s side, senior Ashlee Kidd won the 400 meters with a regional qualifying and season best time of 51.54.

Three track records fell Saturday, including a blazing 400 meters by Olympic medialist and former Tech all-America Angelo Taylor, who ran a personal best time of 44.35 to break a 10-year old Griffin Track record.

Walter Dix of Florida State ran 20.13 in the 200 meters for a track record, and also ran a leg of the Seminoles’ 4×100 meter relay team that broke another track record with a time of 39.19.
