Kellogg Powers Tech Volleyball to 3-0 Sweep of NC State

ATLANTA – Talisa Kellogg hit .448 and posted a match-high 14 kills to lead Georgia Tech to a 3-0 (30-27, 30-18, 30-19) sweep over NC State Friday night at O’Keefe Gym.

With the win, the Yellow Jackets (14-8, 8-4 ACC) extended their winning streak to three matches for the first time this season and remained in fourth place in the Atlantic Coast Conference standings, while the Wolfpack fell to 3-19 on the year, 0-12 in the ACC.

Kellogg recorded her 14 kills on 29 attempts while committing just one error, which came with one point remaining in the match. Ulrike Stegemann hit .429 with seven kills and eight digs against the Wolfpack while Chrissy DeMichelis added 13 kills for the Jackets.

Michelle Kandell was outstanding on the back row for Tech, as she recorded 14 digs in addition to three service aces on the night. The Yellow Jackets had 12 service aces as a team on an evening in which five different players notched at least two service aces against the Wolfpack.

Allie Niekamp and Mary Ashley Tippins shared duties at setter, with Niekamp recording 23 assists and two kills and Tippins posting 14 assists and seven digs against NC State.

The Jackets jumped out to an early 12-5 lead in game one and held off a late NC State surge to win, 30-27, behind the offensive power of Kellogg (five kills) and defensive prowess of Kandell (eight digs).

Tech pushed its lead to 2-0 with a 30-18 win in game number two. With a narrow 5-4 lead early in the frame, the Jackets went on a 12-2 run with strong serving from Erin Birmingham and Ulrike Stegemann to take a 17-6 lead and then scored seven unanswered points later in the frame to cruise to the 12-point win.

Leading by three points in the third game, Tech used a 6-0 run, which included a pair of service aces by Lindsey Gray and kills from Nikki Kaminskas and Talisa Kellogg, to take a 16-8 lead. Tech then finished off the 3-0 sweep on another kill by Kellogg, her team-leading 14th of the match.

NC State was led by Lauren Zaniboni, who had eight kills against the Jackets, while Ashley Wallace and Keri DeMar chipped in seven apiece.
