March 2, 2010

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Georgia Tech redshirt senior second baseman Jen Yee has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I Player of the Week, it was announced this afternoon by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Yee led the No. 11/8 Yellow Jackets to a 5-1 week and was named MVP of the NFCA Leadoff Classic over the weekend.

In addition to the national honor, Yee earned her third consecutive ACC Player of the Week award.

Yee batted .545 (12-for-22) on the week with eight runs scored, six home runs, 14 RBI, two walks and a stolen base. She compiled a 1.364 slugging percentage and a .583 on-base percentage and did not commit an error in 25 chances in the field.

In the opening game of the NFCA Leadoff Classic against UCF on Feb. 26, Yee’s solo home run accounted for the only run of the game as Tech won 1-0. The next day against Arkansas, the North Delta, British Columbia native went 3-for-3 with two home runs and four RBI. Later that night against No. 18/20 Louisiana, Yee was 3-for-5 with another home run and four RBI. To close out the week, Yee hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning against Iowa (Feb. 28) giving the Yellow Jackets their first lead of the game after trailing 5-0. Yee began the week going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in the Feb. 24 home opener against Kennesaw State.

Yee has hit safely in all 15 games this season and leads the ACC in nearly every offensive category. In fact, her 10 home runs this season are more than what five ACC schools have as a team. Yee is hitting .587 (27-for-46) with 23 runs scored, 10 home runs, 24 RBI, 11 walks, a 1.348 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base percentage.
