Jen Yee Earns Fourth ACC Player Of The Week Award

April 13, 2010

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech redshirt senior second baseman Jen Yee has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Player of the Week the league office announced this morning. This is the fourth time this season Yee has taken home this award.

Yee batted .714 (5-for-7) on the week and was on base 14 times in 16 plate appearances as the No. 10/6 Yellow Jackets went 3-1 and opened up a three-game lead in the ACC standings following a sweep of then-second place Virginia. Yee reached base safely in her first 11 plate appearances on the week and added eight runs scored, two doubles, two home runs, two RBI, eight walks and a hit by pitch. She slugged 1.857 and had a .857 on-base percentage. In addition, the North Delta, British Columbia native was a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen bases.

Yee’s two home runs on the week give her 21 now, the second-most in a school single season. She is the fourth Yellow Jacket to have at least 20 round-trippers and is now three away from tying Whitney Haller’s Tech and ACC record 24 in 2006. Brittany Barnes and Savannah Brown are the other two Jackets to have at least 20 home runs in a season.

Yee and the Yellow Jackets (35-6) wrap up their 12-game homestand with a make-up doubleheader against Georgia Southern (20-17) on this afternoon at 3 p.m. at Mewborn Field. Live video, audio and stats are available at www.RamblinWreck.com while both games will be broadcast on WREK, 91.1 FM.
