Jackets Take on Bulldog Scramble

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis travels to Athens for the second time this fall to compete in the Bulldog Scramble Nov. 4-6.

Team Update: The whole squad, with the exception of junior Christopher Eubanks who is at USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, will make the trip to Athens. In his last outing, Cole Fiegel won the consolation draw at ITA Regionals with an 8-1 record at the tournament. Carlos Benito advanced to the main draw quarterfinals for the Yellow Jackets.

Singles Update: Senior Benito will face UGA’s Emil Reinberg in the morning session followed by Wake Forest’s Alan Gadjiev in the afternoon.  Daniel Yun will take on Andy Martinez (Georgia) and Payton Holden (Princeton). Andrew Li faces Holden (Princeton) in the morning session before testing Miami’s Dane Dunlap in the afternoon. Elijah Melendez will take his 7-3 record to Miami’s Niclas Genovese and Princeton’s Jimmy Wasserman. Michael Kay will battle it out against Kial Kaiser (Princeton) and Sam Swank (South Carolina). Phillip Gresk will go head-to-head with Princeton’s Wasserman and South Carolina’s Scotty Cameron. Fiegel will take on Alex Day (Princeton) and Kevin Bondar (Miami).

Doubles Update: The Yellow Jackets will be testing out three new pairings in Athens this weekend. Two veterans, Fiegel and Li will compete together for the first time. Gresk and Kay will make their debut as a doubles pair. Chris Yun will join Benito on the court for the first time. Daniel Yun and Melendez will reunite. The pair held a 9-3 record in the 2015-16 season.

The field: The field will include host and in-state rival Georgia, who the Yellow Jackets have seen three times already this fall. Also included are Atlantic Coast Conference opponents Miami and Wake Forest. South Carolina and Princeton will round out the field at six-team scramble.
