Jackets Set School Record In Distance Medley Relay

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Georgia Tech men’s track team sent a small group of runners to compete Friday and Saturday in the Penn State National meet and the Yellow Jackets did not disappoint.

The foursome of Brandon Lasater, Alexander Reese, Zack Fanelty and Jeremy Greenwald set a new Georgia Tech indoor school record in the distance medley relay Friday night. The quartet crossed the line in sixth place in a time of 9:42.43, breaking the previous record of 9:48.49 set in 2000 by Joe Stegal, Tosin Tomori, Brent Johnson and Brendon Mahoney by more than six seconds.

Individually, they excelled on the track. Reese kicked off the running events Saturday for Tech with a season-best time in the 400m invite with a time of 49.67.

Lasater, Fanelty and Cole Jackob set indoor personal-best times in the 800m invite. Lasater crossed the line first for Georgia Tech in ninth place with a time of 1:49.74, Fanelty followed in 11th (1:50.36) and Jackob finished in 13th (1:52.62).

Greenwald wrapped up the day for Tech, taking fifth in the mile invite with a personal-record time of 4:03.02.

The Jackets are back in action Feb. 7-8 at the Samford Invite in Birmingham, Ala.
