Jackets Picked to Finish Third in Coastal Division

Media members at last week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Football Kickoff selected Georgia Tech to finish third in the ACC’s Coastal Division in 2018, the league announced on Monday.

Georgia Tech received eight first-place votes from the 148 media members that participated in the poll. Only three teams in the 14-team conference received more first-place nods in their respective divisions – predicted Atlantic Division champion Clemson (145 first-place votes), predicted Coastal Division champ Miami (122) and Virginia Tech (16), who was picked to finish second in the Coastal Division ahead of the Yellow Jackets.

After Miami, Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech, the Coastal Division predictions were rounded out by Duke (one first-place vote), Pitt, North Carolina (one first-place vote) and Virginia.

Clemson (139 votes) was the overwhelming favorite to win the ACC Championship Game for the fourth-straight year.

Georgia Tech returns 15 starters, including eight on offense, from last year’s 5-6 squad. The Jackets are looking to bounce back from a tough-luck campaign that saw their opponent score the winning points with 82 seconds to go or less in regulation or in overtime in three of their six defeats a season ago. The sub-.500 season was just the fourth of head coach Paul Johnson’s 21-year head-coaching career – in each of the previous three, his teams have won at least eight games the next year.

2018 Georgia Tech football season tickets and three-game ACC Flex Packs are on sale now. Fans can also pre-register now for the opportunity to purchase ACC single-game tickets on Monday, July 30, two days before they go on sale to the general public. Registration for the pre-sale is FREE. Fans are encouraged to register for the pre-sale if they plan to attend any of the Yellow Jackets’ four ACC showdowns at Bobby Dodd Stadium – versus Clemson (Sept. 22), Duke (Oct. 13 – homecoming), Miami (Nov. 10) and Virginia (Nov. 17) – as it is anticipated that the best remaining seats for the attractive conference slate will sell quickly.
