Jan. 1, 2007

Atlanta – The Yellow Jackets (8-4) open Atlantic Coast Conference play Tuesday when they host No. 2 North Carolina (15-0) at 7 p.m. in the Alexander Memorial Coliseum in the first Tech basketball game of 2007.

North Carolina leads the all-time series with Tech, 45-11, defeating the Jackets 85-56 and 75-56 in last season’s meetings. Tech’s last win over the Tar Heels was on Jan. 17, 2002 at North Carolina.

Tuesday’s game will be the first of two meetings between the two schools, facing off again on Jan. 18 in Chapel Hill, N.C.

The Jackets are coming off a heartbreaking eight-point loss to Mississippi State on Dec. 30 in the championship game of the Atlanta Marriott NW Holiday Invitational at the AMC. Tech was leading by 13 points with under seven minutes to play, but gave up that lead when Lady Bulldog Alexis Rack scored 11 of her team best 24 points with under nine minutes left in the game.

North Carolina is coming off a 41-point win over Tennessee Tech on Dec. 30 led by leading scorer Camille Little, who dropped 20 points on the Golden Eagles.

The Tar Heels are one of three top-five teams Tech will face in the next month. The Jackets travel to No. 3 Duke on Jan. 10 and host No. 1 Maryland on Feb. 1.

Tickets for Tuesday’s game, $4 for adults and $2 for children and senior citizens, can be purchased at the Georgia Tech Athletic Association ticket office or at the door. Doors will open at 6 p.m.
