THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech softball team (19-15, 8-11 ACC) breaks from ACC competition to host Georgia State (19-20, 4-5 Sun Belt) in a Tuesday tilt beginning at 6 p.m. at Mewborn Field.

Georgia Tech is looking to break a five-game losing skid after falling to Virginia Tech in a three-game series over the weekend.

Five Yellow Jackets are batting above .300 led by freshman Kanani Cabrales (.391). Seniors Ashley Thomas (.377), Hayley Downs (.372) and Alysha Rudnik (.316) are batting more than .300 and combine for almost half of Georgia Tech’s 170 total runs. Freshman Samantha Pierannunzi (.308) has worked her way into the starting lineup and five of her eight hits have been for extra bases.

The Jackets and Panthers met earlier this season in a 5-1 Georgia Tech victory at Mewborn Field. Rudnik went 2-for-3 with two RBI and Downs went 1-for-3 with a pair of runs to lead Tech’s offense. Junior pitcher Kylie Kleinschmidt scattered four hits, allowed one unearned run and struck out seven batters.
