Jackets Head to USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

ATLANTA – Senior Montrell Person and juniors Brandy Depland and Andriane Lapsley will compete at the 2005 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, June 23-26, in Carson, Calif. Freshmen Jerome Miller and Andy Powlen will participate in the 2005 USA Outdoor Junior Track and Field Championships, held at the same time and track as the USATF Championships.

The top three finishers in each event at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will represent Team USA at the IAAF World Track and Field Championships, August 6-14, in Helsinki, Finland. The top two from the Junior Championship meet will qualify for Team USA to compete in the Pan American Championships, July 28-31, in Windsor, Ontario.

Person, a recent graduate from Georgia Tech, will run in the 110-meter high hurdles on Thursday at 8:55 p.m. ET. The Merriville, Ind., native finished 15th in the 110m hurdles at the outdoor NCAA Championships.

Depland, a native of Katy, Texas, garnered All-America honors at the NCAA meet in the triple jump and will compete for Tech on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. ET.

Lapsley, a two-time All-American and native of San Antonio, Texas, will compete in the 100- and 200-meter dash events this weekend for the Yellow Jackets, along with former standout Amandi Rhett (2001-04) on Friday at 9:20 p.m. ET (100) and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET (200).

Miller, a native of Stafford, Va., will compete in the USA Junior Outdoor Championships and will jump in the finals at 2 p.m. ET on Thursday.

Powlen, a native of Kewanna, Ind., will throw the shot put at the USA Junior Outdoor Championships on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. ET.

Former men’s track standout and top U.S. middle distance performer David Krummenacker (1994, `96-98) will compete in the 800 on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET.

Chaunte Howard, who turned professional a week ago at the conclusion of her junior season at Tech, will represent Team Nike in the high jump on Thursday at 10:15 p.m. Howard finished her Yellow Jacket career with three NCAA national titles, six ACC titles, six All-America honors and three ACC MVP awards.
