THE FLATS – Despite starting well and taking the doubles point, Georgia Tech men’s tennis unable to stop 11th-ranked Florida State, falling 5-2 on Sunday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets (5-8, 1-2 ACC) used a hard-fought 6-4 win at the No. 1 doubles by 13th-ranked Michael Kay and Carlos Divar as well as Elijah Melendez and Chris Yun’s upset at the 3 over the Seminoles’ (19-1, 3-0 ACC) No. 44 team of Terrance and Terrell Whitehurst.

Red-hot FSU would remain vigilant, however, taking five of the six singles matches to get their 10th-straight victory.

Kay got the lone victory for the Jackets at the No. 5 court over Alex Knaff, fighting to take a 6-all tiebreak in the first (7-5) before capitalizing in the second with a 6-2 win.

No. 53 Divar fell 6-2, 6-1 to No. 74 Aziz Dougaz at the 1 before Phillip Gresk dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision on court two to No. 16 Guy Iradukunda. Melendez fought back from a 6-2 setback to win the second set 6-4, but fell in the third, 6-1.

Florida State’s Jose Garcia was able to defeat Andrew Li, 6-1, 6-4, at the No. 4 position before C. Yun was unable to defeat Chase Wood, falling 6-3, 6-3.
