Hyatt, Haller, Morales Named Academic All-District

ATLANTA–Baseball standout Jared Hyatt and softball all-America Whitney Haller were named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District III first team, while softball player Aileen Morales made the second team.

As first-team all-district selections, Hyatt and Haller are now eligible for the Academic All-America teams for baseball and softball, respectively. The ESPN Academic All-America teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Hyatt, a senior right-handed pitcher from Marietta, Ga., is Tech’s top reliever with a perfect 8-0 record this season, along with a 2.34 earned run average. For his career, he sports a record of 15-2 with two saves, including 142 strikeouts in 135 innings pitched.

He has already earned his degree, graduating in Management with a 3.22 grade point average.

Haller, a sophomore, is a two-time all-Atlantic Coast Conference selection and a record-setting first baseman for Tech’s nationally-ranked softball team. This season she is batting .393 with 15 home runs and 62 runs batted in, which ranks among the national leaders. That follows a freshman season in which she set ACC records with 24 homers, 72 RBI, a .799 slugging percentage and six saves on the mound while earning ACC Rookie of the Year honors. For her career, Haller already ranks third in ACC history with 39 home runs.

The Marietta, Ga., native is also an Academic All-ACC honoree with a 3.87 GPA in Industrial Engineering.

Morales, a junior shortstop from Columbus, Ga., makes the Academic All-District III second team for the second straight year. The Tech leadoff hitter is batting .353 with six homers and 31 RBI. She leads the conference and ranks ninth in the nation with 69 runs scored, an ACC record, while ranking second in the league with 39 stolen bases.

The Academic All-ACC selection maintains a 3.39 GPA in Management.
