THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team continues a four-game homestand by hosting Kennesaw State on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at McCamish Pavilion. 

a win would…

– Make Tech 9-0 in the series against Kennesaw State and Coach Joseph 8-0 against the Owls
– Be the 216th win of Coach Joseph’s career, putting her 8 wins shy of becoming the all-time winningest coach in Georgia Tech history
– Give the Jackets a 3-0 record for the sixth time under Coach Joseph
– Give Georgia Tech its 591st program win, putting it 9 wins away from reaching the 600 win milestone.

Scouting KENNESAW state
Kennesaw State enters the contest against the Yellow Jackets with a 2-0 record after defeating the College of Charleston, 68-61, and Tennessee State, 65-56. The Owls’ visit to McCamish Pavilion is the second game of their six-game road swing. Junior forward Jasmine McCallister leads Kennesaw State in both scoring and rebounding, averaging a double-double with 18.0 ppg and 10.0 rpg. 

Tech fans will find a familiar face among the Owls’ coaching staff. Assistant coach Janie Mitchell was a standout for Georgia Tech and was a three-year captain for the Yellow Jackets from 2005-08. Mitchell was named All-ACC honorable mention in 2007 and third team All-ACC in 2008. The Atlanta Tip-Off Club named her the Georgia Player of the Year in 2008. She ranks ninth on Tech’s all-time points list with 1,422 career points.

Sharing is caring
The Yellow Jackets are averaging  17.5 assists per game which is second-best in the ACC. The Jackets dished out 18 assists against Loyola Chicago in their 92-57 victory. Freshman point guard Antonia Peresson led the squad with eight assists after starting in her first career game. Peresson ranks first in the ACC with an 8.0 assists per game average. Against Morgan State, the Jackets had 17 assists, with sophomore Kaela Davis leading the way with a career-high five helpers. 

“I was really pleased with how we shared the basketball,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said following the game at Loyola.

top-10 in scoring
Georgia Tech ranks second in the ACC in scoring offense, averaging 98.5 points per game. Two of the 15 ACC teams have two players that rank in the top 10 in scoring. Georgia Tech is one of the teams, with sophomore Kaela Davis checking in at fourth with 19.5 ppg and junior Aaliyah Whiteside tied for 10th with 17.5 ppg.

Junior Roddreka Rogers opened up the 2014-15 season with back-to-back double-doubles, scoring 10 points and pulling down a team-high 13 rebounds at Loyola and tying her career-high 17 points and grabbing a career-high 17 rebounds vs. Morgan State. The double-doubles were the sixth and seventhe of her career. When asked about her goals in the beginning of the season, Rogers stated that she wanted to average a double-double as a junior. 

Raining three’s
In the opening game at Loyola Chicago, Georgia Tech made 11 3-point shots which ranks third in the Georgia Tech record books for 3-pointers made in a game. The following game, the Jackets made nine against Morgan State. Georgia Tech is tied for the ACC lead in 3-pointers made per game with an average of 10.

The Yellow Jackets had four players make at least two 3-point shots against Loyola and three against Morgan State. Senior Sydney Wallace is tied for second in the ACC with 3.0 3-pointers made per game while sophomore Katarina Vuckovic is tied for seventh with an average of 2.5 3-pointers made per game.

Wallaces’ 146 made 3-pointers ranks sixth in Georgia Tech history while sophomore Kaela Davis’ 89 made 3-pointers checks in at 10th.

The Yellow Jackets have continued their dominance in rebounding against Morgan State, outrebounding the Bears, 50-22. Tech has a +21.0 rebounding margin this season. Rogers leads the way with a 15.0 rpg average. She ranks third in the ACC and first in defensive rebounds per game with a 10.5 average.

davis’ scoring streak
Sophomore Kaela Davis scored a team-high 17 points at Loyola Chicago and dropped 22 against Morgan State to extend her double-figure scoring streak to 14-straight games. Davis has scored in double-figures in 31 games in her 34-game career.

Georgia Tech hosts Georgia on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. Georgia Tech students are welcome to come celebrate Thanksgiving early and enjoy a pre-game turkey feast prior to the Georgia game while supplies last. As always, kids get in free on Sundays and can enjoy a Kids Zone one hour prior to the game that features inflatables, a DJ and more. Fans that bring canned goods to donate will receive $3 admission.
