@GT_trackNfield Concludes Yellow Jacket Invite

March 27, 2016

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech track & field squad concluded its home opener Saturday, as several Jackets finished high at the Yellow Jacket Invitational.

Freshman Avery Bartlett led the way for the Jackets, finishing first in the 1500m with a time of 3:50.51. Myles McDavid also stood out on the men’s side, finishing second in the long jump with a mark of 7.30 (23-11.50).

“I was very pleased with our day at the track,” head men’s coach Grover Hinsdale said. “We did not let the bad weather or pending bad weather get to us as I thought we did last week at Alabama. The guys got in and fought hard today. Our 1500m group of Bartlett, (Chris) Burnett and (Andres) Littig had a very solid day. I was also pleased with the performances of Myles McDavid in the LJ, William Solomon in the TJ, Julian Darden in the 400m IH and Lionel Jones in the 400m. And, we finished off the day with a great effort in the 4 x 400m relay. (A.Z.) Reese, Littig, Bartlett, and Jones ran a very nice race. All in all, it was a great day and meet. I’d also like to point out a very solid performance last night from Nahom Solomon at the Raleigh Relays, recording a personal-best time of 30.01.85 in the 10,000m.”

On the women’s side, Kenya Collins finished third in two events – the 100m hurdles and the long jump. She recorded a time of 13.72 in the 100m hurdles, while recording a mark of 6.11m (20-00.50).

“The women had a very good weekend and put up some outstanding performances,” head women’s coach Alan Drosky said. “Kenya Collins was terrific in both the hurdles and the long jump, Donjhae Jones also had some nice jumps in the long jump, and Sam Kiblinger ran a great 800m race. Nicey Bauman, though, had a huge weekend with personal bests in both hurdles. Then she teamed up with the 1600m relay, which had an awesome race. In the 400m, Domonique Hall, Angelica Henderson, and Lindsey Wheeler ran very well.”
