THE FLATS – The No. 31 Georgia Tech men’s tennis team was defeated by No. 3 Virginia on Friday night by a score of 5-2. The Jackets dropped to 14-6 and 7-3 in ACC play.

“I think the doubles results were a lit bit unfortunate,” head coach Kenny Thorne said. “I counted five break points con courts 1 and 2, and we didn’t convert on any. You’ve got to give Virginia credit for playing well. I think we came back and fought hard at the beginning of singles and just didn’t quite close things out on a couple of matches. Give huge credit to Chris Eubanks and Carlos Benito for beating two very good players. Eubanks took down the NCAA individual champion from last year, so huge credit to him. That’s a great win. And huge credit to Benito – that guy he beat was No. 6 in the nation. It just shows that we’re heading in the right direction. The guys are believing more and more.”

No. 12 Chris Eubanks of Georgia Tech defeated Ryan Shane, the No.7 player in the nation and defending national champion, by a score of 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 in No. 1 singles. Carlos Benito defeated No. 6 Thai-Son Kwiatkowski by a score of 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 in No. 2 singles.
