THE FLATS – Georgia Tech won three of four singles matches on Sunday but was shut out in three doubles contests as the Yellow Jackets finished a three-day weekend in Athens, Ga., at the Bulldog Scramble.

Carlos Benito, Casey Kay and Elijah Melendez each won their singles matches on Sunday, with Benito taking a straight-set victory from Chris Morrow of Harvard and Melendez winning in straight sets over Andy Martinez of Georgia. Kay lost his first set but came back to win a three-set thriller over Harvard’s Xavier Gonzalez.

It was a productive weekend for Benito, a junior from Madrid, Spain who had been limited to two matches this fall due to injury. He won two of three singles matches this weekend and played three doubles matches in his most extensive action.

Casey Kay and Melendez each split four singles matches while Michael Kay went 1-2 as the Yellow Jackets finished the weekend 7-9 in singles. Freshman Andrew Li split a pair of matches, while Daniel Yun lost his only contest.

Tech was blanked in three doubles matches on Sunday, with regular teams Melendez and Yun back together after each of them played with Benito on Saturday. The Kay brothers fell after winning on Friday and splitting a pair of matches Saturday and finished the weekend 2-2. The Jackets were 4-6 overall in doubles for the weekend.
