Greensboro, N.C. – Georgia Tech senior Guillermo Gomez has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week after defeating a fellow top-25 ranked opponent and leading the Yellow Jackets to a conference win over Florida State.

The 16th-ranked Gomez outlasted FSU’s No. 21 Vahid Mirzadeh by a 6-4, 2-6, 6-0 score on the No. 1 court as the No. 17 Yellow Jackets topped the No. 36 Seminoles by a 6-1 score. Gomez, a native of Alicante, Spain, has moved into sole possession of second place on Georgia Tech’s all-time singles career win list with 103, passing current Yellow Jackets women’s coach Bryan Shelton.

Gomez is nine victories shy of the school record of 112, set by current Tech men’s coach Kenny Thorne from 1985-88. Gomez owns an 18-6 record this season, including a 7-2 mark in dual matches.

Gomez also teamed with Dean O’Brien for an 8-1 win over Clint Bowles and Blake Davis on the No. 3 court as Georgia Tech swept the doubles point. Gomez and O’Brien improved their record for the season to 8-1.
