Georgia Tech’s Christian Matthews to Transfer

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech freshman guard/forward Christian Matthews has asked for and been granted a release from his scholarship and will transfer, head coach Josh Pastner announced Thursday.

“Christian was an integral part of our depth for a good portion of last season, but we support his decision and want him to do what is best for him and his future,” said Pastner.

The 6-7 freshman from Clinton, Md., played in 15 games in 2016-17, averaging 3.4 points and 7.3 minutes per game. He attended National Christian Academy in Washington, D.C.

Georgia Tech’s men’s basketball team has completed its first year under head coach Josh Pastner, posting a 21-16 record and advancing to the championship game of the NIT. Tech has been a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference since 1979, won three ACC Championships (1985, 1990, 1993), played in the NCAA Tournament 16 times and played in two Final Fours (1990, 2004).
