Georgia Tech Volleyball Places Four on Volleyball Magazine Fab 50 List

March 15, 2005

The Georgia Tech volleyball program recently had all four of its early signees named to the Volleyball Magazine Fab 50 list. The Fab 50 is a list of the top 50 women’s volleyball high school seniors who will be freshmen in 2005.

Laura DeMichelis (Aurora, Colo.), Talisa Kellogg (Westerville, Ohio), Callie Miller (Whitehouse, Ohio) and Allie Niekamp (Findlay, Ohio) all were named to the prestigious Fab 50 list. The Yellow Jackets were one of only four programs in the nation to have four or more players named to the Fab 50 list. Georgia Tech joines Minnesota, Stanford and UCLA on the list.

In the three years that Bond Shymansky has been head coach of the Yellow Jackets, he has signed at least one Fab 50 recruit. Jennifer Randall (Long Beach, Calif.) received the honor in 2002 and in 2003 Abby Showers (Vandalia, Ohio) was named to the list while in 2004 Nikki Kaminskas (Flagstaff, Ariz.) earned the distinction.

DeMichelis is a 5-10 outside hitter who enrolled at Tech in January and is currently going through spring practice with the Yellow Jackets. She was the No. 57 ranked high school senior on prepvolleyball.com on the Senior Aces list and was a member of the USA Youth National Team in 2002 and 2003.

Kellogg is a 6-1 outside hitter who has been listed by prepvolleybal.com as the No. 19 prospect on the Senior Aces list, as well as the No. 10 outside hitter in her class by the same organization. Kellogg was a member of the USA Junior National team in 2004 and also helped the Central Ohio Volleyball Club to a seventh place finish at the Junior Olympics in 2004.

Miller is a 6-1 middle blocker who was a member of the 2003 and 2004 USA Volleyball Junior National A-2 team and has been listed by prepvolleyball.com as the No. 37 prospect on the Senior Aces list.

Niekamp is a 6-0 setter who has been listed by prepvolleyball.com as the No. 46 prospect on the Senior Aces list as well as the No. 6 setter in her class. In addition, she has been a member of the USA Volleyball Junior National A-2 team in 2003 and 2004.
