THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech volleyball team travels to Albuquerque, N.M. this weekend to take part in the Sheraton Airport Lobo Classic and play three teams for the first time in program history.

Georgia Tech (2-1) begins the tournament with a 12:30 p.m. ET matchup against Idaho State (2-2) on Friday at the Johnson Center, followed by a 7 p.m. contest against UC Riverside (0-3). The Yellow Jackets play host New Mexico (2-1) at 4 p.m. Saturday to wrap up their time out west.

Tech opened the 2013 season at home last weekend with a 2-1 record at the Georgia Tech Invitational. The Jackets swept the competition Friday with victories against Florida A&M and Chattanooga, before dropping Sunday’s tournament finale to the College of Charleston, 3-0.

Freshman Teegan Van Gunst earned her first collegiate start in the season opener and picked up a team-high 11 kills. She put on another double-digit kill performance in the later match against Chattanooga with 14.

Seniors Kaleigh Colson and Ivona Kolak were solid throughout the tournament en route to being named to the all-tournament team. Colson hit .542 throughout the tournament and Kolak collected 22 kills on the weekend. Tech junior Zoey Morton was named libero of the tournament with 28 digs and a team-best 3.11 digs per set.

Idaho State
The Bengals were picked to finish second in the Big Sky and are led by 2012 Big Sky regular season MVP Lori Mendenhall-Lee. ISU split four matches in its opening weekend at the University of Missouri Tournament, defeating Arkansas State and Pittsburgh, but falling to South Dakota and host Missouri.

New Mexico
New Mexico started its season off to similar fashion like Georgia Tech with a 2-1 record at the University of Arkansas tournament. The Lobos swept UMKC and Northwestern State, and took Arkansas to five sets before falling 3-2 to the tournament host this past weekend.

Junior Chantale Riddle and senior Miquella Lovato were named to the 2013 University of Arkansas All-Tournament Team. Riddle, a right-side hitter, had 40 kills (3.64/set), three ace serves, 19 digs and 11 total blocks. Libero Lovato notched 54 digs over the three matches — more than any other player at the tournament.

UC Riverside
The Highlanders are searching for their first victory of the 2013 season following a 0-3 mark at the Wildcat Invitational this past weekend. Sophomore outside hitter Ashley Cox was named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts during the three games, posting a hitting percentage of .216 while averaging 3.82 kills per set.
