Penn Relays Central

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech track and field team is set to compete in the 120th year of the Penn Relays hosted by the University of Pennsylvania at historic Franklin Field. The world’s oldest and largest relay carnival is set for Thursday through Saturday and will be nationally televised on NBC Sports on Saturday from 12:30-3 p.m.

Last year, there were 48,871 in attendance at historic Franklin Field on Saturday for a three-day total of 111,284 – eclipsing 110,000 fans for the sixth consecutive year. It was the 10th straight year and the 13th time in the last 14 years with more than 100,000 spectators in attendance.

The women’s 400-meter hurdles kicks off the meet Thursday at 10 a.m. with Tech’s Ama Larbi competing in the event. The women’s 4×100-meter relay team will take the track at 12:55 p.m., and the women’s distance events wrap up the running events on day one with the 5,000m set for 9 p.m. and the 10,000m scheduled for 10:15 p.m.

In the field events, Julienne McKee and Carissa Tipler will compete in the women’s long jump championship set to start at 12 p.m.

Friday’s focus is the relay events as three women’s relays and two men’s relay events highlight the second day of competition. The men’s 100 meter dash is tucked between relays at 3:30 p.m.

On the final day of competition, Jonathan Gardner is set to compete in the triple jump at 2 p.m. and the men’s 4×800-meter relay team runs at 4:40 p.m.

The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s teams are coming off 12th and 14th-place performances, respectively, at the ACC Outdoor Championships last weekend where three Yellow Jackets earned All-ACC honors.
