THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech softball team takes a break from conference action Wednesday with a single game at Mercer. Action is slated for 6 p.m. at Sikes Field. The Yellow Jackets own a 18-21 overall record, while the Bears are 22-23 on the season.

Georgia Tech
The Jackets went 1-2 last weekend at Virginia Tech, dropping the doubleheader Saturday to the Hokies before winning the Sunday finale, 10-4. Tech hit four home runs in the win led by senior Hope Rush’s two long balls.

Ashley Thomas continues to lead the squad with a .423 batting average, 41 runs, 55 hits, four triples and 20 stolen bases. In Tech’s 10-9 loss to Mercer earlier this season Thomas went 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI, while Alysha Rudnik went 2-for-2 with a pair of runs and two RBI.

Mercer
The Bears went 1-2 against Florida Gulf Coast over the weekend and have won two of the last 10 games.

McKenzie Woody leads Mercer with a .433 batting average, 41 runs, 68 hits and 17 stolen bases. Against Tech earlier this season, Woody was 2-for-5 with one run. Sarah Santana went 2-for-3 with three runs, an RBI and two walks against the Jackets back in February.

Mercer mainly uses a pair of pitchers in Kerri Nidiffer and Julia Rice. Nidiffer owns a 3.30 ERA to Rice’s 4.10, but Rice has put in more innings at 153.2 to 114.2.

Series History
Georgia Tech leads the all-time series 48-14. The 10-9 loss to Mercer at Mewborn Field on Feb. 20 this season was Tech’s first loss to the Bears since March 9, 2008 when the Jackets fell, 1-2, in Macon, Ga.
