Georgia Tech #ProJackets Basketball Report

Feb. 15, 2018

THE FLATS Thaddeus Young records back-to-back double-doubles … Derrick Favors leads Utah to 11-straight wins … Iman Shumpert is traded to the Sacramento Kings … Jarrett Jack continues to try to lead a Porzingas-less Knicks team … All of this and more can be found in this week’s Georgia Tech #ProJackets Basketball Report.

Derrick Favors has led the streaking Utah Jazz as they’ve won 11-straight games, including a thrilling 101-99 victory over San Antonio on Feb. 12. Favors has two double-doubles in his last three games, putting up 15 points, 11 rebounds against Portland before having 18 points and 12 boards against Phoenix. Through eight February contests, Favors has scored in double figures in six contests, one of the main reasons that Jazz have looked so sharp thus far. Utah host the Trail Blazers on Friday, Feb. 15 at 9 p.m.

After finding success in multiple spurts of playing time, Marcus Georges-Hunt hasn’t seen the floor since Feb. 3, partly due to illness. The Minnesota Timberwolves have lost three of their last five games.

In the wake of Kristaps Porzingas’ season-ending injury, the New York Knicks have struggled mightily, currently on a five-game losing streak. Jarrett Jack continues to lead the offense, reaching double figures scoring-wise twice in the last week and having five assists in the 118-113 loss to Washington on Wednesday, but Porzingas’ loss has been massive to the Knicks scoring ability. With the loss of its star, Jeff Hornacek has stated that the team will most likely use the time after the All-Star break to develop some of its younger guards as it limps toward the off-season.

Prior to the NBA’s deadline, Iman Shumpert was traded from Cleveland to the Sacramento Kings. Shumpert has not played since Jan. 23 after undergoing surgery on his knee earlier in the season. His most recent missed game (Wednesday against the Rockets) was due to a foot injury.

Thaddeus Young continues to roll, putting up back-to-back double-doubles in wins over Boston and New York, while also scoring in double figures for the third-straight contest in the 108-103 victory over Brooklyn on Wednesday night. Young recorded 13 points and 14 rebounds against the Celtics before putting up 18 points and 11 boards against the Knicks. Winning four of their last five, the Pacers have regained their stride as they near the All-Star break. Indiana hosts the Atlanta Hawks on Friday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m.
