Georgia Tech #ProJackets Basketball Report

THE FLATS Derrick Favors helps Utah Jazz to perfect week … Thaddeus Young has helped the Pacers to fourth place in the East through 14 games … Iman Shumpert asserting himself as a veteran voice ona young Kings team … That and more in this edition of the Georgia Tech #ProJackets Basketball Report.

The Utah Jazz won all three games they played in the last week, improving to 7-6 on the season, while Derrick Favors continues to be an integral part of the team’s performance. Favors finished with 12 points (4-5 FG, 2-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT), eight rebounds, three assists, two steals, and one block in 28 minutes during Monday’s 96-88 win over the Grizzlies. Favors delivered an extremely efficient line while helping his squad earn a win against a team that had beaten the Jazz twice already this season. Favors has reached double figures in scoring in eight consecutive appearances, and he took advantage of his season high minute total versus the rare opponent that pairs two big men together for most of the game.

Iman Shumpert is asserting himself as a veteran presence and voice on his Sacramento Kings team that has won seven of its last 10 games to improve to 8-6 this season, including 17 points in an 11-point win over Minnesota. It was his third double-digit game this season. But he was not happy after Saturday’s 101-86 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers and his former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate, LeBron James. Shumpert scored seven points on 3-of-8 shooting in that game, and is averaging 8.8 points for the season.

Josh Okogie, selected 20th overall by Minnesota in this year’s NBA Draft, has averaged 8.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists through the Minnesota Timberwolves’ first 14 games. The former Yellow Jacket All-ACC performer ranks No. 5 in the Kia Rookie Ladder, earning high praise in the early going after not seeing action in the Wolves first two games. He ranks eighth among rookies in scoring average, sixth in rebound average, and leads rookies in steals per game (1.7).

Thaddeus Young scored 13 points on 67 percent shooting from the field during Indiana’s loss on Sunday. Young added a board, one assist and a steal in 23 minutes of action. It was Young’s first time scoring in double-digits in November, though in that five-game interval the veteran was also putting up 7.2 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game.

Marcus Georges-Hunt, who spent last season with the Timberwolves and was unable to stick with the Boston Celtics after training camp this season, has started all four games thus far for the Maine Red Claws in the G League, averaging 13.3 points and 5.3 rebounds. Georges-Hunt supplied 17 points (6-12 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 2-2 FT), four rebounds and three assists across 36 minutes in last Saturday’s 133-105 road loss to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. The efficient shooting from MGH was a nice improvement for the forward who is shooting a rough 37 percent through four games.
