ATLANTA – For the first time in nearly a month, the Georgia Tech Volleyball team (11-7, 4-3 ACC) will play at home as North Carolina (15-5, 6-1) and NC State (12-7, 2-5) visit O’Keefe Gym this weekend. On Friday night at 7 p.m., the Yellow Jackets will host their annual “Dig for the Cure” match against the Tar Heels and then the Wolfpack visit for a 1 p.m. match on Sunday.

Tech has won four straight matches, all on the road, and now sits in a fourth-place tie in the ACC standings after dropping its first three league matches. Georgia Tech is 23-28 all-time against North Carolina after sweeping both matches last year. Against NC State, the Jackets are 36-12 and have won 20 straight matches against the Wolfpack, 14 of which have been 3-0 sweeps. NC State’s last win in the series was a 3-2 decision on Oct. 22, 1999 in North Carolina.

Friday night is the annual “Dig for the Cure” match and all fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness. A marketing table will be set up at the door and fans can make a donation or pledge an amount for each dig Tech records against North Carolina. Donations will be accepted in the form of cash or check and 100 percent of the money raised will go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

The team will be wearing special pink uniforms and pink t-shirts, hats and visors will be on sale throughout the night. In addition, pink shakers will be handed out to fans entering O’Keefe Gym. Fans can also purchase raffle tickets for $5 each to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Prizes include a pink iPod, autographed pink volleyball, a one night stay at Courtyard Marriott Hotel with two tickets to a volleyball match of their choice and fan packs.

In addition, Zeta Tau Alpha has partnered with the Georgia Tech Volleyball team to raise awareness for breast cancer. On Friday night, they are going to be giving away free Yoplait Yogurt in order to collect the lids to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

On Sunday, October 24th at Noon, Z-T-A will hold a golf event at Orchard Hills Golf Course in order to raise even more money for the Foundation. Prices are $85 for adults and $75 for students. The price includes a t-shirt, bbq dinner and an awesome day at the course. For more information about this and their other charitable events, please visit their table outside the gym.
