Erin Wright Hired as Softball Assistant Coach

July 25, 2015

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech softball coach Shelly Hoerner announced Saturday the hiring of Erin Wright as the Yellow Jackets’ pitching coach. Wright is currently a pitching coach for the National Pro Fastpitch’s PA Rebellion.

“I am excited to have Erin join our Georgia Tech softball family,” Hoerner said. “Her love for the game and her passion for the student athletes will bring new energy to our program.  Erin is a tremendous teacher of the game and will bring a great learning environment for our players both on and off the field.

“She has a proven track record of being a winner, and making her players successful.   Being able to work with Erin again is an added asset.  There is a great rapport between us, which will aid in continually moving our program in a positive and winning direction.”

Wright comes to Georgia Tech from Troy where she was an assistant coach in 2015, and enters her second stint with Hoerner after serving as an assistant coach for Hoerner from 2006-08 at the College of Charleston. She replaces Charlotte Morgan, who accepted a position as the pitching coach at Oklahoma State.

“I would first like to thank Coach Hoerner for the opportunity to be at Georgia Tech,” Wright said. “Tech is one of the most premier institutions in the south and across the country, and it is a blessing to be a part of such an established program under Coach Hoerner’s vision.”

In 2015, Wright coached the SunBelt Pitcher of the Year, first-team all-conference and third-team NFCA all-region selection Jaycee Affeldt. Prior to coaching at Troy, Wright was the head coach at Hoover High School in Hoover, Ala. and earned the Over the Mountain Coach of the Year award in 2014 after leading the team to the state tournament.

Wright pitched four years at Alabama (2000-04), where she earned multiple SEC Pitcher of the Week honors and was named to the 2003 NCAA regional all-tournament team. She posted a career mark of 62-21 in the circle with a 2.13 ERA and 558 strikeouts in 548.1 innings of work. The Crimson Tide won the 2003 SEC Tournament and advanced to the Women’s College World Series.
