Divar Opens Main Draw Play in ITA All-Americans

TULSA, Okla. – Georgia Tech men’s tennis sophomore Carlos Divar will open main draw play at the ITA All-American Championships against Jose Salazar of Arkansas on Thursday, Oct. 5.

A recent Arkansas graduate from Tenerife, Spain, Salazar was named an ITA All-American for doubles, ITA National Most Improved Senior Player, and a first-team All-SEC member after finishing 30-9 his senior year. Finished his career with the Razorbacks ranked 45th in the country after winning the singles title at the ITA Central Regional Championship. Once in the ITA/USTA National Indoor Championships, Salazar made it to the Round of 16 before ultimately falling.

Divar enters his sophomore season after an impressive freshman campaign. At the four position, Divar registered a 14-9 record overall with a 13-8 mark in dual match play. Hailing from Vitoria, Spain, he also found success in doubles, reaching as high as No. 48 nationally with teammate Carlos Benito (12-9 record in dual matches).

The Yellow Jacket enters the main draw after going 3-0 in the All-American Championships qualifying round. Divar downed Buffalo’s Ethan Nittolo in three sets before making easy work of Ewan Moore of Tulane. Divar then defeated high-seeded Parker Wynn of Louisville to secure his place in the main draw.

Divar and Salazar are scheduled to face off at noon.
