Complete Naismith Trophy Watch List

ATLANTA – For the second straight year, sophomore Kaela Davis has been named to the Naismith Trophy Women’s 50 Watch List, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced on Wednesday.

Davis is one of 12 sophomores named to the list and one of 10 ACC players honored. This is the second major award watch list that Davis has been named to so far this season. She was also honored on the Wooden Award Preseason Top 30. Prior to this season, Davis was named to the Preseason All-ACC team by both the media and leagues’ head coaches. She is also a nominee for the All-State WBCA Good Works Team.

Davis is averaging a team-best 18.4 points per game, which ranks fourth in the ACC. Her 5.9 rebounds per game are second on the Yellow Jackets and 20th in the league. Davis is averaging 1.9 made 3-pointers per game and her 99 career made 3-pointers rank 10th in Georgia Tech history. She has scored at least 20 points per game in five games this season.  Davis has scored in double-figures for 21 straight games and in every game this season.

The 50 player watch list was compiled by the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s Board of Selectors, which based its criteria on player performances from the previous year and expectations for the 2014-15 college basketball season. The Naismith Women’s College Player of the Year presented by AT&T will be awarded during the 2015 Women’s Final Four in Tampa.

In late February, the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s Board of Selectors will compile a mid-season team of the top 30 players in the nation. In March, the Naismith Trophy voting academy will vote to narrow the list to the four finalists.

Davis and the Yellow Jackets host Central Arkansas at 4 p.m. on Sunday at McCamish Pavilion. Fans that bring a new, unwrapped toy donation will receive a $2 ticket to the game. The toy donation will benefit the Michael Isenhour Toy Drive. As always, kids get in free on Sundays and can enjoy the Kids Zone which features inflatables, a DJ sign making, bracelets and face tattoos.  The Kids Zone begins an hour before tipoff.
