Curry Tabbed ACC Pitcher of the Week

April 2, 2018

ACC Official Release

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech sophomore pitcher Xzavion Curry was named the ACC Pitcher of the Week, the league announced today.

ACC weekly honors are determined by a vote of a select media panel. It is the first ACC weekly honor of Curry’s career.

The Atlanta, Ga. native improved to an ACC-best 6-0 on the season with a 6-1 win over Miami last Friday night. The Tech ace struck out a career-high 12 batters in 8.0 innings, allowing just one run, one walk, and six singles in his fourth quality start of the season. The win was the first win of the Jackets’ sweep of the Canes, their first sweep at home over Miami since 1967.

Curry’s 12 strikeouts were the most by a Georgia Tech pitcher in a single game since Buck Farmer fanned 14 batters in the Opening Day win over Akron on Feb. 15, 2013.

With his 12 punch outs, Curry became just the third pitcher since 2000 to fan 12 hitters or more in an ACC game, joining Jason Neighborgall (12 at Duke on March 4, 2005) and Cory Vance (14 vs. No. 2 North Carolina on March 17, 2000).
