CARY, N.C. – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams kick off their post season at the 2016 Atlantic Coast Conference Cross Country Championships on Friday morning. The women will race first in the 6000-meter at 10 a.m. followed by the men’s 8000-meter at 10:45 a.m.

The championships will be held at the WakeMed Soccer Park, home course of NC State. Both races will be live streamed on ACC Network Extra.

Team update: On the men’s side, 10 Yellow Jackets will take on the 8k on Friday morning. Among those racing are sophomore Nahom Solomon and freshman Frank Pittman. Solomon led the Yellow Jackets in three of four races during the 2016 season, including a second place finish at the season opener against Kennesaw State and Georgia. Pittman is a two-time ACC Freshman of the Week following his performances at the Roy Griak Invitational and the Crimson Classic.

For the women, nine Yellow Jackets will take on competition from one of the top cross country conferences in the country. Mary Prouty and Amy Ruiz have both finished top among the Jackets this season. Junior Haley Anderson will also run for Tech; she posted personal bests in her last two appearances including a first place finish among Division I competition at the Foothills Invitational.

The field: The Yellow Jackets will go head to head with some of the top competition in the country on Friday morning. Notably among the competition on the men’s side are No. 6 Syracuse, No. 16 Virginia and No. 26 Virginia Tech. Last season, Syracuse won both the ACC and National titles. On the women’s side, NC State ranks No. 3 in the country racing on its home course followed by No. 19 Notre Dame.

Georgia Tech will see some familiar faces in Florida State, Pittsburgh and Duke, all of whom the Yellow Jackets have faced this season. Tech bested the Panthers and the Blue Devils on the men’s side at the Griak Invitational. Both the men’s and women’s teams topped Florida State at the Crimson Classic on Oct. 14.
