LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After finishing the regular season with an impressive run,Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country reaches championship season with confidence, beginning with the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships on Friday, Oct. 27 at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville.
The women are scheduled to run at 10 a.m. while the men are slated to begin at 10:45 a.m.
The ACC currently has three women’s teams and three men’s teams ranked or receiving votes in the country. Fifth-ranked NC State leads the women’s side, while Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech placed 33rd and 35th in the poll, respectively. No. 4 Syracuse paces the men’s teams, while No. 11 Virginia Tech and No. 22 NC State also make the top 30.
Regionally, six ACC teams ranked in the women’s top 5. After No. 1 NC State in the Southeast, Florida State ranks second-highest in a region at No. 3 in the South, while Georgia Tech (South), Virginia Tech (Southeast), and Syracuse (Northeast) all ranked fourth. ACC Championship-host Louisville is currently fifth overall in the ACC-heavy Southeast region. Outside of the nationally ranked core-three (Syracuse, Virginia Tech, NC State), only the Georgia Tech men’s team ranks in the top 5 of a region at fourth in the South.
The women have been on fire of late, ending the regular season with a bang by winning the title at the Alabama Crimson Classic on Oct. 17. Taking the crown by a full 50 points in an ultra-competitive field, the Jackets received votes in the USTFCCCA National Coaches’ Poll for the first time since 2002, ranking 35th overall – good for third-highest in the ACC.
The men finished strong as well in regular season competition, taking third place at the Crimson Classic. Then-No. 22 Middle Tennessee and Alabama finished in a tie just 14 points ahead of the Yellow Jackets, with the winner decided by tiebreaker. The Yellow Jackets remain the lone member of the ACC not on the national poll to rank in the top 5 of its region (fourth in South).
The ACC Championships will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra and will have live results.
