Cross Country Opens Season at UGA

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country squads are geared up for the Bulldog Invitational to start off the 2018 season in Athens, Ga., on Saturday, Sept. 8.

The men will run an 8K course at 8:30 a.m. before the women take the 6K race at 9:15 a.m. The Yellow Jackets will compete against Augusta, Kennesaw State, Florida A&M, as well as host-team Georgia. The women also face Georgia State and North Georgia.

This year the Bulldogs were ranked first in the USTFCCCA women preseason south regional poll, while the men sit at ninth. Tech’s women came in ranked fourth and the men 11th.

In last year’s UGA Invitational, the White and Gold placed second behind host Georgia. Leaders from the dual meet returning this year include Mary Prouty and Nicole Fegans. Prouty led all Tech women with a seventh-overall finish, while rising sophomore Fegans finished 10th with a 22:18.2 time.

On the men’s side, returner Mitchell Sanders placed 15th respectively with a time of 25:51.1, followed by Frank Pittman who finished 22nd clocking a time of 26:07.8.
