Castle Joins @GTAthletics as Director of Ticket Operations

Aug. 26, 2016

THE FLATS – Mike Castle, a 12-year veteran of the athletics industry at the collegiate and professional levels, has joined Georgia Tech athletics as the director of ticket operations, associate director of athletics for sales and fan experience Rick Thorpe announced on Friday.

“Mike’s background of successfully leading ticketing efforts in collegiate athletics, professional sports and performance venues positions him well for helping us build our fan base in the competitive Atlanta market,” Thorpe said. “His blend of balancing excellent customer service with leading sales strategy and management while embracing technological innovation fits perfectly with the culture we’ve created here at Georgia Tech.”

Castle comes to Georgia Tech after five years as assistant athletics director for ticketing at Old Dominion. He oversaw all ticket operations for ODU athletics, including 34-consecutive home football sellouts. He also directed ticketing for special events for the on-campus Ted Constant Convocation Center and served as the regional director of ticketing for Spectra Venue Management, overseeing ticket operations for eight arenas across the east coast.

Castle’s arrival at Georgia Tech marks his return to the Atlanta metro area, as he spent seven seasons as ticket sales and operations manager for the Atlanta Braves’ triple-A club, first in Richmond, Va. (2004-08), then in Gwinnett County (2009-11). He played a major role in the successful sales launch of the Gwinnett Braves and the opening of Coolray Field in 2009.

“I’m excited to be back in Atlanta and appreciate the opportunity to be a part of the tradition of Georgia Tech,” Castle said. “I’m honored to join a great team and eager to make an immediate impact in our ticket operations.”

Born in Silver Spring, Md. and raised in Williamsburg, Va., Castle graduated with a bachelor’s in business administration from the College of William & Mary in 2003. He and his wife, Allison, have two children: Avery (7) and Carter (5).
