EUGENE, Ore. – Junior Avery Bartlett led the way for Georgia Tech track and field to kickstart the 2018 NCAA National Championships on Wednesday afternoon at Historic Hayward Field.

Bartlett earned second-team All-America honors for his performance in the 800m semifinals, once again kicking hard over the final 200 of the race to finish with a time of 1:48.49 to place just shy of automatic finals qualification at third in his heat and 11th overall. Including indoor, this marks the third All-American recognition for Bartlett after capturing second-team honors in 2017 Outdoors and 2018 Indoors.

Capping the Yellow Jackets evening was senior Nahom Solomon, who wrapped his outdoor collegiate career by finishing in the top 20 as well. After an uber-quick start to the race, Solomon was able to turn in a time of 29:46.96 to finish 19th overall.

Bartlett finishes the year with four sub-1:48 performances in the 800m, including the season-best time of 1:47.76 – just two-hundredths of a second shy of his own school record – that was run at the Florida Relays. The 2018 ACC Champion in the 800m, Bartlett also took first place at the Georgia Tech Invitational and Florida Relays, as well as taking first in the 1500m at the FSU Relays.

Solomon finishes an impressive season and outdoor career, etching his name into the Georgia Tech record books in the indoor 3000m, indoor and outdoor 5K and the 10K this year. Solomon captured four top-10 finishes this season across his various long-distance events, including the eighth-fastest time in NCAA East Prelims history at last week’s Regionals in Tampa, Fla. After graduating in the spring, Solomon will return to finish out his final indoor season of eligibility with the Yellow Jackets.

Georgia Tech continues action at Nationals on Thursday, June 7 when Jeanine Williams competes in the 100m hurdles in the second heat. The event is currently scheduled to begin at 8:02 p.m. ET.

The entirety of the 2018 NCAA National Championships will be broadcast live on ESPN with Thursday’s coverage airing on ESPN2 and Friday and Saturday’s coverage airing on ESPN. For complete broadcast information, click HERE .
