Austin Jackson Signs to Play Basketball at Tech

ATLANTA – Austin Jackson, a 6-1 point guard from Denton, Texas, signed a letter-of-intent Friday to attend Georgia Tech and join its men’s basketball program, head coach Paul Hewitt announced.

Jackson, the first signee for Tech during the early recruiting period, is ranked 10th among the nation’s senior point guards by Athlon Sports. Overall, he is rated No. 49 by Rivals.com, No. 65 by The Insiders.com and No. 80 by The Sporting News.

“Austin is perhaps the quickest and fastest player we’ve recruited since I have been at Georgia Tech, and he has great point guard instincts,” said Hewitt.

Jackson, who averaged 22.5 points, five rebounds and three assists per game his junior year at Ryan High School, playing the off-guard position after playing point guard as a sophomore, when he averaged 15.9 points and six assists per game.

A center fielder who batted .423 with five homers and 34 RBI for his class AAAA runner-up baseball team, Jackson is rated the No. 14 draft prospect among high school players in the nation by Baseball America.
